Vw passat 2005 (old shape) turned off when I braked

I was coming up to a junction and I was breaking, about 5 feet from a complete stop the car turned off and when I turned it back on the abs light flashed on then off. Any help? Its a 1.9tdi. I also have the brake pads worn light up but that came up a few weeks ago and I need to change them
