Universities with best international reputation?

    I've been reading lots about different Unis and they all seem to spout this 'internationally recognised/respected' stuff, but how true is it? Which Uni Degrees do employers look at on a CV and say 'oh, that's a prestigious college'?

    Does it depend on the field (I'm looking for a career in science, if that matters)?

    Advice appreciated.

    In my own experience within the graduate path (astrophysics bsc->meteorology msc->hydrology phd) it was not important at all, the experiences learned within the study periods was what helped me, I always had a strong experimental background. At the graduate level what seems most important is the individual professors themselves within a department and their contacts and how well known they are
