I want to meet people here from South Mayo so I can investigate the stories....otherwise I couldn't be bothered sharing them to be honest. I'd imagine there's enough ghost stories around here anyway.

I haven't experienced anything paranormal in my life yet and I want to.....

You might be as well to try the Mayo forum if you're not willing to share your stories here then..

Might give it a go sure.....but I'll share my stories here then if your interested........

The main reason I believe in ghosts is because of my Dad - simply because he had first hand experience. I could never figure out what motives anyone could have to make up such a story.

My dad is a normal person, born in the 50's in Mayo, went to Dublin for work, came back to Mayo in the 80's (he was a country boy) and had a family etc....he had lots of brothers and some sisters when he was growing up. He has a normal job, he lives in a parish community, goes to mass....nothing unusual. Nearly retired now.

Himself and his brother were out walking somewhere when they were younger and decided to investigate this old derelict house they spotted, they pulled weeds and thistles etc. to get at it, and then to get in, they had to force the front door. As soon as it opened they heard somebody run out of a room upstairs and across to the top of the stairs....and stop! Dad and his brother went white and left straight away, and they were afraid to talk until they got home.....the footsteps of whatever it was were from somebody with big boots on.

It's like as if the entity heard the noise of the door being pushed, ran to the top of the stairs to see who it was and looked down at them....

This is an old story from Louisburgh, West Mayo. My Grandfather was out hunting in a local forest with a few other men. One of them saw what ever animal they were after. He took aim and released a shot.
Unfortunately at the precise moment where the animal was a local man from the village appeared, the man took the full force of the shotgun blast.
The men panicked and ran back to Louisburgh to get a doctor. They also ran to the house of the man they had mistakenly shot. They rattled on the door, who was to answer the door, but the man that was shot in the forest.
He was fine, he said he was never in the forest. When they went back to the forest there was no trace of anything or anyone.
It was blamed on the Fairies !!

What do you make of the story yourself?

I'm guessing your Dad and Uncle were young at the time, (hope so anyway :D) and not to take anything away from the story but my initial thought was that it sounds like a cat was in there when they bust in the door

Could it just as easily have been a fox, badger, dog even?

I must ask him what age he was.

Why do you hope he was young actually?

My Dad is from Louisburgh and we have a house down there right behind the funeral home. I've been going there my whole life and can honestly say it's my favourite place in the world. Have never heard that story.
Don't suppose you know the name of the man who was supposedly shot?

It could just have been a homeless fella. I live in the countryside too and have gone into my share of abandoned houses - theres usually some broken window where you can get in (doors usually bolted), maybe they just didn't see the easier route in?

I went investigating (out of curiosity and boredom) an old derelict farmhouse with my friend last year (we're not vandals or anything just curious teenagers :p). We went in the window of what looked like a sitting room or "parlor" I suppose. It was in really poor shape, dank smell of urine and a really strong earthy must. We looked around the room and then we were clawing at each other to get back out of the window.

There was a wet steaming patch of wall in the corner that looked like someone pissed on it :(

Yeah Louisburgh is a great spot. No, I don't have a name, all I have on this is heresay. The older generation around Louisburgh had a big emphasis on fairies. I think they used to use the idea of fairies to keep children away from dangerous spots like forests and lakes etc ...
