    My OH too these photos this summer of stumps protruding through the sands on Cross beach. These stumps appear and dissappear depending on the amount of sand moved by the tides. Larger sections of the underlying bog can also be seen further down the strand, some of it can be seen in the second photo. A large piece washed up on nearby rocks was a very dark and dense bog oak.
