I was given a HTC wildfire, it has Android 2.2.1 on it. The google account it has on it isn't mine and I don't know the password. I wanted to delete that account after adding my own, but the verification process fails and I get an email

Google Account xxxx@gmail.com from an app that doesn't meet modern

I can log in to gmail, so I have the correct PW for that.
Someone suggested I do a factory reset, but I think I'll just get the same problem.

I'd like to put CyanogenMod7 on it (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_buzz), is that likely to be different in this respect ?

It's been a while since I did a factory reset but doesn't it ask you for a passord for the main google account first?

If you put CM7 on it, it will wipe everything that's currently on there.
