Hey iv been on topamax for around three years now. I get paraplegic migraines for te past ten years.i was put on around four different tablets and topamax was the only one that worked.
Regarding the side affects.i got a lot of pins and needles and it does make me v sleepy.it does affect my concentration a bit and I do sometimes struggle for words and it can be a bit frustrating (I studied eng in college so it's annoying). I think I lost hair as well but it's hard to know.I did lose weight thou and it really really controlled my migraines and it was really with it for me because of that. I hate being on tablets but cause of the frequency and severity of my migraines I'm resigned to being on these ones!!the side affects were worth it and I don't really notice them anymore to be fair.
Hope that helps-if you need any More info let me know?

To be fair I didn't notice feeling down but I think I was in so much pain and was so low from the migraines anything was an improvement. No issues with kidneys either.
I started with a low does and worked up to 50(I think) twice a day-I'll check that when I get home.kicked in after around a month i think.i went from migraines 3/4times a week to one every 3months. So much better then how I was-I felt and feel the side affects are worth it!
Keep a diary thou it's a good idea iv got lazy with mine but u should keeping-even to see how your coming along psychologically itl be worth it!!i was on the way to severe depression with my migraines can't believe how much better I am looking back!!i hope it works for you :)

Cheers. Class to hear it's working for other people too.
To be honest I nearly feel kind of guilty calling mine migraines when I don't suffer the blinding sick headaches that others do, but it really has been effecting me. I've become so much less active, putting on weight as a result, and I can get quite irritable when I have the symptoms. The constant waiting for the next dizzy spell even ruins the times that I'm actually OK. Though that said, in the few years they've been ongoing I'm lucky that I've only had around 4 or 5 days where I couldn't get out of bed at all.
I've been keeping the diary for the past 4 months for the consultations and I've to keep it for the next 4 while trying the Topamax. I'm keeping it in the car now and filling it in for the previous day before I go to work in the mornings.

Look if it's affecting your life to that extent I wouldn't feel guilty about anything.and I deff know how it can affect your social life.the days I wasn't in bed were nearly worse as I was like half a person and was just not functioning properly.lost a job over it. So if it's a migraine it's a migraine!
Yeah it's a godsend tbh-one of the things is deff have on a desert island with me lol! Just follow the drs advice note anything down and go from there-everyone's different thou I was on other tablets that worked great for other ppl and did nothing for mine or other ppl seem to have better/worse side affects! But I'm living my life again and that's the main thing.
