    Ever happened to you?

A mate I haven't seen much of lately sent me a nice text asking if I'd like a coffee before work today (afternoon shift). I was delighted, sure a coffee and a catch-up - what could possibly go wrong?

His wife was there too, nice girl. She asked me if I liked her top. I said I did (wouldn't wear it myself mind, but didn't say that - it was rather teenage in its style) she said "good" led me into the sitting room - there was a mountain of new tops in packages, a mirror set up and she started handing me some to try on. Her "new business" she informed me.

I tried them on for peace sake, said no - they didnt suit me, the XL size was more like a size 12 I'm a size 18 on a thin day. I didn't buy any. I don't feel bad either - I felt kinda hoodwinked tbh.

It was up there with the aloe vera and oriflame floggers! Done with stealth.

Well there's this new scheme if I can get 10 of my friends to give me a thousand euro each, then they each get 10 of their friends to give 1k each, well then everyone can get rich. I'm so good to my friends I'm just trying to encourage friendship.

Its all part of the thing they signed up to OP. They get the product along with some 'free morkeshing and selling advice'

Usually at the top of the list is 'Tell your friends and family about your venture. Their support is a crucial building block for you to progress to the next step of your journey to success'.

    Executed like a sting operation.
    Obviously in "sell mode".

I had a friend who has a really great job and was sound as a pound and I was just after losing my job and feeling pretty ****e about myself.

One day she messaged me on facebook with a "job offer" - woah, says I, what a great pal finding me a job to apply for - I read it and it starts off with "oh, this job would be great for you, you are such an outgoing person with a huge friend base"

I'm not outgoing and I have a small close friend base - so I was confused but it soon made sense when I read on and she described how if I bought into her aloe vera bs pyramid scheme that I could be making loads of money, just like her! Only cost me a grand initially but I'd soon make it back!

    Unfriend.

Felt like one anyway!- she payed €1300 for her stock so the pressure is on I guess.

Whats the nicest way to say "f*** off". That's what I'd say. Because like, they're friends, so you can't really say "f*** off". But you should let them know that's what you'd have said if they weren't such good friends.

Looks like the OP might need to revisit their definition of the expression good friends.

I'd set them straight. Also people who forward on msn is closing/facebook is going to charge/bill gates will give a billion computers if you post this/chain letters, etc'.

My parents were taken in by a pyramid scheme when I was about 8 years old.
their best friends put on a presentation for them in their sitting room called 'blue skies' marketing and my parents were taken in

There was a load of excitement for a few days followed by an attitude of 'never mention this again' and the conspicuous absence of their former best friends.

I chose to be very courteous but firm. I didn't and won't buy anything, I don't even feel slightly bad about it.

It's annoying when friends see you as a way to make money. I'll be more guarded from now on. No need to end a friendship, but show no interest in the "business" and never inquire about it either.

Real friends should be able to tell each other to 'fúck off' without any ill feelings.

Called over to a friends house around 13/14 years ago.

Went into the kitchen and his mum was there to talk to me about an 'investment' she actually was trying to convince me to take out a credit union loan to put 10k into a scheme were i'd get 50k back in 3 months.

I told her she was crazy and explained what a pyramid scheme was.

Didn't listen to me, mentioned it a year later they and denied all knowledge of the conversation.

a few years ago got a message of them taking about Banners Brokers ...

    They'll never learn.

Juice Plus and some sort of aloe vera shíte are the common ones I see on FB from people who I'd think would never be caught by these things!

There's more of a cult behind these things in more recent years, and people can easily get caught it seems :(
