Ive been told i will have to repeat second year of a 3 year degree, i only have 4 exams to do so this will leave me with time to work more hours throughout the year.

ive been offered a part time job that will be between 25-40hours a week.

I'm worried about this effecting my BTEA allowance especially as i will need it next year, i was told i can work as long as it doesnt affect my studies which it wont.

Can anyone shed any light on if it will effect me next year? I Havent worked in few years so am eager to take this oppourtunity.

You won't get BTEA for repeating unless its under very special circumstances as I was told today in the Waterford Social Welfare, Also last year I had to repeat third year. I went to the social explained everything to them and I had four subject to repeat and was told that I could get BTEA but I had to register first.

Once register (after paying €1500) went back to them only to be told that I wasn't entitled to BTEA. Argued with them for three months and got no money and only lived on what I could sell. I even went to a local TD only to be told after three months that it was my word against theirs.

Pretty much failed the year again because the people who work in there don't know what information their giving out. The even funnier thing about it is I went back today to ask the requirements for repeating and was told go register again. I told the girl working there what happened last year only for them to irate at me.

If you do manage to get BTEA you can work while getting it but you have to tell them that you are working and I think that it can't be more than 24 hours.

I was told today that I can repeat one academic year whilst in reciept of BTEA and that you can work part time as long as it doesn't interfere with your full time studies. There are no set hours as far as I can tell but the office must be notified of work.

Can anyone else shed light on this?

You can work on BTEA that's for sure without it affecting you BTEA payment but check the hours with them. Have they approved your BTEA,as in your register to repeat as a full time student to do four exams and attend classes. Have you already register with the college and getting paid from BTEA. I only ask this as if you got approved then I should be approved. Do you mind me asking which social welfare you are applying to.
