    Gentlemen,

This last year I have applied myself to the manly arts of turning wood. One can also turn other things like plastics and resin so I got to thinking... I needed a new pen and what would I want my pen to be made out of?

I think we all know the answer to that.

    Behold... is it not beautiful?

Very cool D. I imagine a pen also has the advantage that you can use unusual woods that might not come in large sized raw material? What wood is it?

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Don't answer! This could be a guessing game.

In an alternative Matrix universe, my stupidity could power a small village or even a town. I'm thinking Dingle. Yea Dingle. :o:)

I think that's as close to a proper blokes pen as I can imagine. Hourglass figure to boot. In other news, you're completely mad. :D

Oh and BTW if you ever do want some different wood for smaller projects like the above I have chunks of hawthorn, mahogany, cherry, beech, lilac, even tree fern drying out in my shed(don't ask…)

Yeah, that's all good stuff.. the more usual woods (mahogany, cherry and beech) I have but lilac and hawthorn sound good and I'm always looking for dried stuff like fern to put in resin and make pen blanks out of!

I've a rake of tree ferns down the back of my garden overgrown jungle*. They might suit your purposes well I'd imagine. The fronds are a lot tougher, almost plastic in consistency when compared to the native ferns anyway. Hawthorn is quite a pale wood, close grained, but it's a hard wood. Very. Good for carving, preserves detail. Lilac is a bit meh D, no real standout TBH.

*I have a microclimate going on. I've even a few baby tree ferns that have naturally grown from spores.

Am I to undetstand that this rather fine weapon is milled from sausage meat? Well hoofed, that man. Although I personally would prefer billet aluminium. :D

    "milled from sausage meat?!" ....

    ... Pearls before swine!!

That is finest Danish bacon, wrapped around pen cores, grilled to a crisp, dunked into a resin bath, turned to shape and buffed to a shine!

I even nibbled the ends to make them square. :) (I have a making-of video coming soon :) )

    T.
