Had a very nasty surprise today. A spare room that I hadn't checked in weeks, has an en-suite and there was a back-flow from the sewerage, which has destroyed the entire bathroom. The sight and smell is almost overwhelming. Not sure what I need to do next. Would the council have any responsibility here? It seems the sewage mains had blocked up or backed up. Would normal contract cleaners be equipped / willing to take on the cleanup? Thanks.

Wow that's a mess I know I shouldn't laugh but I can just picture the conversation between some sewer jetting crowd called out to fix a blockage " turn her up to 11 there Jim.
    Will do Pat!
There you go that's gone and done her now.
Lovely jubbly, clean as a whistle now.
That's the job, pack up the truck and send out the invoice lad"

Could of been worse, could of been on the pot at the time ugggh
Definitely inform the council alright what ever about getting anything towards cleaning the mess but more importantly so that it doesn't happen again to you or anyone else on the street

Anybody care to guess what would cause this problem?
Had to be some pressure to give this result.

Called Irish Water and told them about it. They said they would look after it, the clean up inside, everything. Council came out (unannounced), checked the lines were now free. Guy said someone had been throwing wet wipeds down the jacks and clogged the lines. Said no way are they going to clean the inside of the house. So its gas mask and white suite time.

You can get non return flaps and put them on the pipes in the shore. that will allow waste to escape but won't allow anything back up. You may still have a mess in your garden but at least it won't wreck your house. Don't allow anyone to throw wipes down the loo. They are a disaster!
