The mirror comes in three different parts the main body, the mirror glass and the cover and depending on year weather or not it has the indicator lamp in the mirror.

Is your cover broken if not it can be reused.

Painted post purchase. Simple to do yourself. You can get someone to do it or paint it yourself. Get the paint code off the jamb of the door and go to Halfords and get a rattle can.

Take off the plastic backing and give it a wipe with paint thinners. Put the rattle can in a basin of warm water for 5 mins. Give it a good shake and spray the mirror backing. Spray it with clear lacquer then and fit it to the car. Save ya a fortune.

Thanks for the replies, i might look into doing it myself. yeah there's no hoping of reusing this thing, its smashed to pieces. They gave it a right smack.
Is there much work in hooking up the electrics?

Nope, theres a plastic cover on the inside of the door, prise it off slowly and you'll get at the bolts and the electrics. All it is is a plug.

Consider getting one from a scrappy.

Consider getting one from a scrappy.

That would be my first port of call. They might even have one in the colour of the car.

OP, I'm not sure what he means by "Electric Mirror, Manual operated" Id ask the seller to clarify that first. The pics don't always correspond to the description on ebay!

Where does one start looking for a scrap yard?

Depends where you are, there should be a list of scrap yards in the motoring diy forum.
But eBay is also a good idea

Deciphering the paint code from the door badge is not easy! Called around breakers yard, nothing going. Best I can see is a fully painted unit from this crowd for 140 euro incl P&P

    Its Ford Imperial Blue

Really? When I search for Ford focus models with Imperial Blue, it's a much darker version that comes back. Could they have used the same name for different shades of that blue?

Yep 100% - you can see the colour behind the badge.

Hmm.. according to this is http://ezytouchup.com/?cid=53&doit=showclass&mf=FORD&ml=%20FOCUS%20(Sport/Ghia)

    BRIGHT BLUE P

If you go to halfords they have a system where they just put in g8 and up it pops. You could always ring a ford dealer and give them your chassis number and they will confirm it.

By the way id take that photo down, it has your full chassis number which is not wise to have up on the net

Yeah, this is conflicting alright. Why do they have to make it so damn confusing to figure out!

Yes it looks like the closest match. Just to double and triple check I might call the ford dealer I bought it from 5 yrs back ( up north).

3rd match lol - vision blue! Now I'm totally confused!

The Halfords Ford Vision Blue Metallic car spray paint is an exact match for the Ford codes: 9, Q, 8CPC.

    Ford manufacturers codes: 9, Q, 8CPC
Provides a tough, durable protective finish on metal, glass fibre or rigid plastic panels
    Advanced acrylic based formulation
Compatible with virtually all types of automotive paint finishes, including cellulose
Compatible with Ford C-Max, Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, Kuga from 2008 to 2012

What was it out of curiosity?

Vision - based on the VIN lookup. Seems to be easy to pick up the wrong colour though. Now I need to source a cheap mirror unit :)

Use a plastic primer before the colour coat then finish with a clear lacquer. Build up with multiple light coats rather than applying one heavy coat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,359 ✭✭✭jon1981

Cheers, the one I ordered is primed. So presume I won't need a primer?

So finally got my hands on the mirror! I was able o salvage the back cover off the old mirror. I'm thinking rather than paint the new one, i might try and take it off and stick the old one on if possible. I've been able to take the mirror off the unit but for the life of me I can't get the cover off without fear of breaking it.

I looked for videos on youtube but couldn't find any videos that showed mine. Any ideas? its 08 focus.

    thanks
    Jon

Job done. Was able to fit the always wing mirror cover over the new unit. Took an hour to take off the old cover though, had to practically dismantle the mirror to release the cover and stick on the old one. Fully fitted in less than 10 mins after that.
