efibre speeds

hi guys, i had efibre installed a few weeks ago from eircom, before i ordered the efibre I done the line test on the eircom site which gave me a possible speed up to 80mb.
now i knew i was never going to get speeds of 80mb and when i got it connected i was getting 43mb which was fine with me but after a few days i lost service ,phone and efibre was down, got it back two days later for a few hours and went down again for a week, when it came back my speed had been cut to 23mb.
I had a chat with the engineer and he explained that the reason i was getting 43mb for a while was that i had been plugged in to a test port in the exchange that was set at 50mb hence i getting 43mb at my end and i am now in my own port which is prequalled at 30mb which is down to 23mb at the house. now i dont think 23mb could be considered efibre or at least not related to the imaginary advertised speeds of 'up to 100mb' my question is what can i do if anything to get my port prequalled to a higher setting, i have had a chat with someone whos an expert in the area'its his job. and when i asked why was my port prequalled to 30mb when my line can and had recieved 43mb from a 50mb port he said it was bull**** from eircom and i could either chase them around the place trying to get someone to sort it out and give me a half decent service or grin and bear it,Im from a country area and there no real competition in this market in my area, i can live with 23mb as its triple what i had but more is better, regards

Unless there is a fault there is nothing you can do or get them to do, prequal is based on the length and quality of your line. Post the line stats from your modem.

"Up to Some limit" means definitely less than that limit

Thanks for the the reply guys. I'm out of the country for a little while so can't check the modem. I'm only fishing for information to educate myself a little so when I do get on to eircom I'm a little more informed. Regards

In case you're not very 'techy' :)

The internal wiring of the house is very important to eFibre. Do you have telephone cabling in your house going to extensions?

If so, remove it all and try and see if the Net Attainable Rate goes up (look at the xDSL diagnostics page in the modem).

Is the efibre modem connected to the telephone junction box nearest to the point where the cabling enters the house? If not, move it to that box and again, check if the Net Attainable Rate goes up.

thank's, I'm away working for a few weeks and will have a check on things when I get home, what I don't understand is, I was receiving 43mb off a 50mb port, granted it was a port in the exchange set at 50mb and used for testing purposes. if my line is capable of the above mentioned speed why then is my port set at 30mb, anyway I think i'm going to have to do a bit of goggling to get a better understanding, cheers

That bit doesn't make any sense alright. The Eircom modem is excellent for that as the net attainable lets you tinker around and see effects etc. And also tells you if your provider is being lazy and not upping profile when it could be.
