Not my car, but its a 03 Peugeot 206 - and the heater fan works perfect on 4 , but not working on 1, 2 or 3 .

    What could be wrong ?

Okay - Thanks Colm - $20 dollars , so I presume it can be got cheap enough in a car breakers yard .

The car passed NCT last week , was surprised this wasn't checked as it could be safety hazard , with the windscreen fogging up .

Fans and demisters etc are not covered by the NCT but in my opinion they should as I tried driving around with a broken fan last winter and it wasnt safe.

I had to get the blower motor replaced for around €300 huge job as the entire dash has to be taken out to access the blower and replace it and the steering wheel and airbags have to be removed.....not a job for the amateur motorist.

The NCT can't be the only motivation to have things working.

Certainly should not be the only motivation , but I had told the owner I expected the fault to be at least advised by NCT .

With no.4 working , at least its better than none , but if none were working it would probably be fixed quicker

Be careful of buying one from a scrap yard as potentially a second hand resistor can be burnt out like the one that you have.

Get it checked first before buying parts. The wires in the plug can burn too.

A sticky motor or blocked pollen filter can cause them to overheat.

WTF the blower is a safety feature now? Did ya ever hear of rolling down a window or using a cloth or a sleeve?

I was once quoted 300 as well for the same job, yet when I attempted it myself there was no need to go near the steering wheel.

It is if you're driving along and the window mists up.
Opening the window doesn't work fully or quickly.
    I've been there.

This Peugeot 206 is a NI import , with air-conditioning . Could the problem be related to the air-con ?

You should be able to spot it in time though. Drove around for years meself without the thing working and wouldn't miss it unless tis cold

I wouldn't bother with a second hand resistor. Usually they are tricky to fit so no point in having to fit a new one again after a short time.. they usually stop working in sections. 1 will stop working first them 2 etc
