Dunno if it's been mentioned in other threads but did anyone else notice Cole's hooking the ball directly out of Smith's hand?. Must be totally illegal as doesn't allow for contest..

EVERY team in the world had crooked feeds.it is one of the most unpoliced aspects of the game.

I think your mistaking a snap hook for something else.

The physics simply don't add up for your claim to be true. The only one that could hook direct from Smith's hands is the loosehead. There's no way coles, under the pressure that they were under, could contort his body to achieve what your saying. Remember the scrum half must feed it in with two hands, and will have to hold it past the loose head and opp tight head.

Aaron Smith's hands are between woodcocks legs with ball in hand and Cole hooks it out. Clear as day . Camera zooms in perfectly. 17.19 on match clock. Enough of he couldn't possibly do it answers without watching it.

Also noticeable is that once they hooking the ball quickly the front row collapses and ref let's scrum continue because the ball is at the back of the scrum

Well I definitely stand to be corrected, seems like an incredibly stupid thing to do

Yeah, noticed it at the time, but nobody contests the hook now who so cares? Only thing is I was thinking was that how dangerous it is for cole to cross his leg across that far, if the scrum collapses in that position he'd risk serious injury.

As unbelievable as it sounds, it is clearly the hooker. It is not a natural movement so the only purpose is to hook the ball to to back of the scrum. It looks pretty dangerous too as if the scrum collapses i imagine he could suffer a serious injury

well thats clear enough for me.
what make it more amazing is that smith doesnt even get the ball in beyond woodcocks shoulders.
    channel 1 ball

if woodcock drops coles leg is broken, thats some trust!

It's an impressive feat by Coles. I think the scrum had already collapsed on the far side.

Is it illegal though? Does the ball have to be released by the halfback? Does it have to travel a certain distance into the scrum?

Yes it's illegal, the ball has to touch the ground and also the scrum half is supposed to let go of it further back, but it's so bizarre that I don't think we'd ever see it penalised unless it became common. Not that we ever see any scrum feeds ever penalised!

Uruguay were penalised in the first half on Saturday for a feed straight into the second row.
