sorry to hijack a old thread but im also looking to maybe buy a car for a cheap run around for a few years.

If i was to buy a car like this how reasonable is it to assume i can fix it up cheap or am i going to come into trouble with insurance.

this car for example is a 2009 and only 20 k miles selling at 2500

You need to use your loaf and some common sense here. The cheapest non crashed 2009 i10 with similar mileage is asking 5,300 here:
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/hyundai-i10-1-3-petrol-2009/10088605?offset=6

Now if that crashed i10 could be fixed up cheap then why hasn't the seller done so and made a profit from it? The reason is that there is probably more damage to the car than can be seen on the surface.

So if you can repair that i10 and VRT it all in for less than €2800 and then get it signed off as road legal, it may be a "bargain".

Looks like something an insurance company has deemed uneconomic to repair.very unlikely it will be professionally repaired with new parts for less than it's pre crash value.

The boot floor is bent at the spare wheel well.
That imo is what has written off the car. That would have to be professionally repaired before going on the road again.
