You haven't mentioned whether or not you can check your bags all the way in Dublin. Though to be honest even if you can, I would find it tight with just myself, never mind two children.

Also, the last couple of times I've flown through Gatwick in the last few months, there have been delays.

I'd be giving myself more time.

Both airlines use the South Terminal but all the same I'd agree with the other poster, that connection is too tight. Gatwick is huge and delays are common. Can you afford to risk missing the Trans Atlantic sector? That's always the question to ask yourself.

Is it all sold on the one ticket? The MCT is 1hr30m but I'd feel it very very tight. You will have to rush, and that's assuming the incoming flight is on time.

yep it would be all on the one ticket/booking, might look for alternative times with a longer wait so, with two young kids i could be visiting every toilet on route to the connecting flight !!, wasn't sure about the 1:30 wait between flights so i thought id ask. not worth risking, now back to skyscanner ! ;)

I've done that connection 2 or 3 times. Never had an issue, always had time to grab a coffee before boarding the Virgin flight. Yes you might not make the connection if incoming flight is delayed but I'd have no problem booking it.

I'd always prefer to stop off in US if you can't do the direct Aer Lingus flight. Clearing emigration/customs in Ireland is something I'd always take advantage of if possible.

a connection in the us has it's advantages, last time we connected in jfk and all was well and pre clearence in dub was handy, it's just that this time there is almost a 400 / 500 euro price difference in the flights when making the connection in the uk which is a lot of cash for not much inconvenience. found a flight with a longer connection via manchester - might go for that...... ;)

I'd hate a UK connection. It's when you are coming home that's the killer, flying over Dublin when you know you have to land in the UK and wait around until you can board again to come back. Would have to be a huge saving to make it worthwhile.
