    Bring 'em on!

    http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/sep/20/teen-prosecuted-naked-images-himself-phone-selfies#comment-59870764
A teenage boy in North Carolina has been prosecuted for having nude pictures of himself on his own mobile phone. The young man, who is now 17 but was 16 at the time the photos were discovered, had to strike a plea deal to avoid potentially going to jail and being registered as a sex offender.

Experts condemned the case as ludicrous. The boy was, however, punished by the courts, and had to agree to be subject to warrantless searches by law enforcement for a year, in addition to other penalties.

Take a class in making good decisions :) and no cellphone for a year.

They are incredibly conservative in parts.

The worst thing is, that's not a unique case by a long shot, it happens a lot. You'd think after the first time, they'd said hang on a minute, this isn't how the law is supposed to work.

“There are about 10 or 12 mostly conservative states where they will prosecute kids for this,” said Lane, “and it’s a kind of moral values thing – they are trying to make an example of them because it’s believed to be inappropriate behaviour.

“There is a streak of moralizing that runs through this country that is disturbing sometimes.”

Hardly surprising though just look at where it is sure, bible belt territory.

Are boys under the age of consent who have a fap potentially going to be charged with child rape / sexual assault???

Please. Our laws are just as stupid:

'According to the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2006, sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 17 is a crime, but a girl who has sex while aged under 17 is not guilty of any offence.'

    American Sharia Law
It does have more fundamentalists than almost any other country in the world, after all.

Alas no. We just read about them more because of the shared language.

The young man was also named in the media and suffered a suspension as quarterback of his high school football team while the case was being resolved.

Probably as much to with this as anything else. They take their high school football seriously in those parts, and a few dirty tricks wouldn't be beyond manys a rival coach/parent/sherriff

As best I know north Carolina is far, far more open minded and centrist that most of the rest of the fundamentalist 'bible belt'. Which should help some understand just how insane they are down there.

It's ridiculous alright, but this american thing is a whole other level of stupidity, going to jail as a sex offender for having pictures of yourself on your own phone?? Especially american jails..

Well he was under age at the time so theoretically he could have sexually assaulted himself.

Jaysus, at that age I'd say most of us were sexually assaulting ourselves daily.

What happens when a teen is coerced into sending nudes to an adult (who may be posing as a teen) -- is the teen going to be arrested too?

Also, teens have been arrested in many countries of nudes of themselves, including UK. Im sick of this 'only in America' bullcrap -- which yes I know the Americans say it to -- but it's not true.
