My friend told me that everyone should have one area where they surpass everyone else, be it in a sport or a field of knowledge. What do you think?:P

There are pros and cons to specialisation like that, as anyone who works on contract in the IT industry will tell you. For example I specialise in a particular area, but I have to constantly keep upskilling and pushing myself to make sure that if the area I specialise in ever becomes redundant, I can switch over to another area of expertise.

It's a delicate balance really, and a lot of people will tell you don't put all your eggs in one basket. Specialisation is part of the reason why many third level grads are finding it hard to find employment, because there's very little or even no demand for their particular skills.

I try to be a good all-rounder though generally, can't really get into sports though at all, but I have friends that specialise in all the sports stuff so I don't have to.

I think it is a mathematical impossibility.

That said - I think I will have to leave it to others to judge where - if anywhere - I excel. I suck at self evaluation.
