Infamous art critic Brian Sewell has died at the age of 84.

For some reason I feel totally gutted.

He was outrageous, opinionated, a screaming opportunistic promiscuous sex maniac. ( Behind trees, public toilets, park benches and after a stroke the first question he asked the medics was whether he would still be able to w@@k off, otherwise life would not be worth living. He was in his 70s ! )

Hs writing, TV appearances, agree with him or disagree with him, was unmissable. He was never bland.

He lanced the BS of " modern art ". He was the little boy who said the emporer was not wearing any clothes.

That Tracey Emins pile of bedlothes was just that, a pile of bedclothes. Not art.

Damien Hirst created a skull with diamonds which sold for £50 Million making him the most expensive living artist. Overnight, all his "artworks" shot up in price.

The skull was called " for the love of god ". He has an Irish mother. Get it ?

    Who bought the skull ?

Himself ! In a consortium of art dealers who owned his art so who all stood to benefit from him becoming the " most valuable living artist "

I told anyone who was listen he was taking the piss.

    Genius at making money.

But as an " artist " a charlatan.

In an era of Kardishian, the like of Sewell will be missed.

Eventually we will just be left with journalists with the IQ of a banana.

    Sewell on Hirst...

    "f**king dreadful".

You gotta love that as an art critique! But he was provocative.

I found his documentary series "Brian Sewell's Grand Tour" and "The Naked Pilgrim" tremendously entertaining.
    RIP

The talk of the '90s of late - between TV retrospectives and a thread here - reaffirmed my loathing for Emin and Hirst.

RIP Brian. People don't talk like that anymore, everyone sounds the same.

Will miss his dulcet tones & his opinionated views on the airwaves.

    Great critique.

    RIP Brian Sewell.
