Volvo V70 Fuel gauge problem

The dashboard fuel guage on my 2008 Volvo V70 D5 SE G (MY08) 5DR Auto is currently showing a full tank although I have considerable kms up since my last fill.

Previously, it has registered near-empty immediately after filling the tank.

It looks as if the fuel tank has to be removed to gain access to the sender unit which may be the source of the fault, or perhaps a sticking float mechanism.

Has anyone tackled such a job as a DIY project?

You're probably right it is the sender. It could just be stuck or loose.
You can inspect it by removing backseat and lifting assembly up.

    Biko,

Thanks for that pointer. I hadn't thought of lifting out the back seat
