Heuston down to the Esso in Palmerston.

Got a chance to do a clear run on this sweet bit of resurfaced tarmac this evening. 80kph the whole way. And it was incredible.

You'll notice it right away when you hit the new part. The markings are crisp, tight even, they've gone with the classic white markings on a black road - if it ain't broke....

The rumble strips (left and right) give a lovely bvvvvvvvvvvvvv noise, and nice feed back to the wheel.

The bvvvvvvvvvvvvv from the rumble strips is all the more stark and noticeable for the roads most striking feature .... The almost total lack of road noise. It's like you're flying. I'm sure that there was a significant petrol saving but I can honestly say I was so captivated by the super smooth road.

I'd highly recommend that you get a go of this bit of road before some one ruins it for everyone with a bit of chewing gum.

I love driving on the rumble strips. Though I'd describe the sound as more like brrrrrrrrrr

Are the 80 kph limit signs back up now? Very confusing on that stretch during the works as the speed limit signs got taken down and with no temporary limits. You're left in a 60 kph limbo on what is normally a 80 kph road :(

I've noticed that when you hit a lovely stretch of tarmac, and the car goes really quiet. Is there a more pleasant driving experience? Why can't we have more of those roads.

The surface outside RTE on the N11 is designed to reduce noise. The issue however is the quieter the ride, the smoother the surface which means in the wet it's lethal. Some roads in Ireland are actually not finished or use a cheaper top coat of tarmac. I'm actually concerned when the road is too quiet.
