Calling Alfa heads

Any of the Alfa fans give me break down of the model structure of Alfa Romeo. Don't know the ranges at all really, other than maybe cloverleaf is possibly sporty model.

    For example :

    Opel breakdown

    S - Base model
    SC - Middle/Base model
    SE - getting better/middle Model
    SRi/GSi - sporty/comfort
    Elite - Top of range/comfort
    OPC - Sporty model

I am thinking of a change scene for awhile and fill my 'Not a petrol head till you own a Alfa' notion. Alfa GT/159 catching my attention for now.

You have Turismo>Veloce>TI>Lusso>GTA on the 156 AFAIK

What year are you looking at? Alfa trim levels used to be Turismo, Lusso, Veloce, Sportiva and Cloverleaf if I recall correctly

    These might help...

    http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-159-brera-andamp-946-spider/268634-trim-level-differences-between-alfa-159-turismo-lusso-and-turismo.html

But save yourself all the hassle. Just get a top of the range ti trim spec (if you can find one). You won't regret it.

The Cloverleaf has traditionally been the GTi / OPC equivalent. The soon to be released Giulia will have a Cloverleaf version too, but that's an M3 / S4 equivalent.

Probably up to 08 (07/08 most likely), these are looking to be good price wise for me.

    Cheers all for info.

Where does the Blackline Monza II fit in, is this special edition or something??

The blackline is a GT only spec. Definitely the nicest GT available. Ive only ever seen them in black though. Pretty hard to get a nice GT in Ireland.

If you are going for a 159 the TI is the only one to go for. They just look so good. If go for the 18" wheels instead of the 19s too. The tyres wear fairly quick on the front and the 19s are way more expensive. The 18s ride better too and look just as good.

Are you looking for a diesel or a petrol?

I think the Monza & Blackline were runout trims in the GT, so they have the bells & whistles.

I have a 2008 159 ti and I have to disagree about the wheel sizes. The 19s look much better, no question. The tyres are expensive though. Originally, I wasn't sure about the 19s, but I'm glad I stuck with them.

As it happens, I'm on the lookout for a 159 ti Sportwagon in the UK, so my saloon 159 could be on the market soon. Mine's the 150bhp 1.9 diesel.

OP I have a 159 named as 'Executive' on the logbook. No idea why or where this Trim level came from and nobody has ever been able to explain it. It's somewhere between Turismo and Lusso in terms of trim level. Having said that it didn't turn me off it. I bloody well love it. I drove a ti before buying it and while it was great to drive I found the harder ride put me off it as I have a bad back. I can completely understand how others love it though. Mine is also a JTDM 16v 150bhp diesel. The pick of the engines I reckon. Just to add, it's been the most reliable car I've ever owned.

PM me if you want any info, I'm also considering selling mine as I don't drive much any more but I haven't advertised it yet.

If its a diesel you are after then go for the 2.4 159 but the 210bhp version and not the 200.
They are a lovely car in the right colour. Metallic black and red leather comes to mind :).
Try and get one with the sat nav and heated seats also.
If your budget is good then id have the dpf and egr blanked off.
Best to head to the uk though for these or if you are unique then the tbi 159 which is the same cloverleaf engine used in the giulietta.

Good stuff, leaning more towards GT and petrol but also a lot will depend on condition at end of day. If the best available is diesel then diesel it will be etc

Cheers for info, 159 Ti is an option for sure as said above leaning more towards a GT for minute. I have to say though the 2 159 Ti I seen at Cork cars and coffee is what set me off on a change :D

Is that main difference to a Ti, that's good info to know I like different hence my OPC Burg I have. Sat nav seems virtually invisible with some of the cars I looked at.

How reliable are the dpf and egr, I have feeling one of the diesels is virtually same as my Insignia engine and its been perfect.

I leave any changes to car for another time, with this car (done a fair whack to Burg) to be honest unless I am unlucky and I will probably look at it then.

UK is most likely where I head to be fair, I can visit mates and potter around looking at same time.

It's the sane as the Vectra 1.9 diesel. Mine is just approaching 200k km and has never had a dpf issue but it's only been doing long motorway runs and I'm very careful not to turn it off while it's regenerating

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,875 ✭✭✭✭bear1

The 1.9 is used in both saabs and opels. The 2.4 is only in the alfas/fiats/lancias

There's a few differences between the 159 ti & the rest of the range. Handling-wise, suspension is lowered by 20mm and they have Brembo brakes (look out for the big red calipers). They also have either 18 or 19" wheels.

On the exterior, they have side skirts, brushed chrome mirrors and ti badging. Inside, they have heated sport seats, sports steering wheel, aluminium pedals, chrome door steps and dark grey / black roof liner.

Cheers for info, I was refering to the TBi and Ti though. :D

Ah, ok. The Tbi isn't s trim level - it's an engine (1750 cc petrol with 200bhp). It was introduced in late 2009. Definitely the pick of the engines, but extremely hard to find. That'd be my first choice - a 159 ti Sportwagon with the Tbi engine. Still, I'd be happy enough with the 170bhp 2.0 diesel too.
