    Hi all,

I want to tune in RTE/TV3 Sky on my TV. I don't have a subscription to Sky and tuned in other channels listed in the guide fine on my Sky box. Does anyone know what I have to input to get Rte and Tv3 channels on my Sky box?

    Thanks in advance
    D

They are not available free to air on the satellites that a sky system works on.

    They are encrypted subscribtion service.

You will need an aerial and a TV/Set top box capable of receiving Soarview

If you buy something like this which is generally used for Card Sharing (illegal) you can use it perfectly legally by plugging the cable from your sky dish into it and tuning in loads of FTA channels in HD.

Great wee box, easy to use and set up.

Oh just to clarify, if you go with a box like that you don't need to get an aerial put up. Also, if your old sky set up was Sky+ then you can get two of the boxes for 2 TV's and split the sky cable coming from the LMB.

How can you get RTE (legally) without an Ariel and just a regular sky dish??

Yeah with that box I mentioned above. It uses your sky dish to tune in all the FTA channels in IRL & UK.

That box is a Saorview/Freesat combo. It gets the RTE signals over the air, not through the dish.

I don't have an aerial and I have the RTE channels from plugging into the sky.

Edit: I'll check when I get home if i'm getting them as per the OP's requests.

Yeah your dish or wires might be acting as the aerial but the RTE signal is not coming via satellite.

It's not. The description above says it's a combo box, and it's receiving RTE stations that aren't even broadcast via the satellite.

    It's a Saorview box.

They are broadcast encrypted and card sharing would decrpt them- that's illegal and not allowed here. Ariel is necessary

??? rte channels are broadcast via sky, so if you were card sharing with a sky card you could access the rte channels via sky satellite feed
if it were the cable as you guessed, it would still need to be connected to the antenna in connector on the box. the DVB-t tuner in the box is not going to take a signal from the DVB-S input

You can tune them in via satellite from 28 degrees east & they'll appear in the channel list, but the TV channel video & audio is encrypted. The radio channels work though, as does text on the RTE TV channels.

That box relies on Saorview for the Irish channels - read again .

Because I read the product description.

Seriously lads, the OP came on looking for advice and he's getting steered in completely the wrong direction.

He needs an Ariel to get Saorview. The satellite cable won't do

And as said above the Saorview input feed is separate to the satellite input feed

the op's question has been answered, with a sky box and no sub he cannot get the sky channels

    for the box jayop posted

    it's a combo dvb-t/dvb-s box

if not card sharing, you'll get the fta satellite channels, and need an aerial for the rte channels via saorview
if card sharing with a sky card you can get the encyprted channels, including rte, via satellite. but this is illegal

if he is getting rte with no antenna connected, i know what my guess would be at how. and id be very surprised if it was a signal from a shielded cable into an unconnected antenna socket

Steered by you. What we advise is correct

Yes, I know. That was in response to the guy who claimed to be getting Irish tv via the dish. I expect he has another wire somewhere that is acting as the aerial and he doesn't even realise it

Card-sharing is not a possible explanation

I think you're confusing my posts with someone else. I don't know how many times I've said that it's a Saorview box and he can't get the irish stations via satellite

    But we're all agreed now.

It would be perfectly capable of receiving RTE & TG4 on the Saorsat service @ 9 degrees east, along with the UK channels from 28 east, given the right dish/LNB/switch setup, although I get the point you're making is in relation to the OP with only a Sky dish, & also one would think anyone buying a combi would be on for using the terrestrial tuner for something.

I made a mistake, I assumed the box I had had RTE on it going by a youtube video I had watched during the week about adding channels.

    Sorry about that!!

I don't have a subscription to Sky (mentioned in OP) as I had it cancelled and I can't watch RTE. I get some message to get a subscription. I previously tuned in some channels e.g. BBC Wales and they worked fine so I was hoping it would be the same for RTE/TV3.

Also, thanks to all for their posts.

Who that was trying to help did I mislead? Once it was suggested I was wrong I said I'd check. I did and admitted I was wrong.

    Hardly a sackable offence.
