Hi, I have a lot of recorded tv on a valid sky sub with a sky box. If I cancel the subscription does the content get deleted or could I view with a different sub, once it's paired etc.?
I have an old subscription in my name that they are offering me a decent deal on to return so just trying to figure what happens if I did that.

If the recorded content is from an encrypted channel then it can only be played back with the card it was recorded with, therefore you would be unable to play back this content with your other sub.

If the content is not from an encrypted channel then aslong as the viewing card has the sky+ sub on it you can play it back.

Really? What's the point of that. What if you needed a card change, you'd lose the content recorded.

Ok other options then I guess, any way I can pull the content off the hard drive?

No, replacement cards carry over the authorisation.

So the encryption is specific to the user account ? That doesn't seem right.
Surely any actively subscribed card paired to the box would allow content then if a card swap could.

It's about 500mb of HD content. Too messy for DVD and not really worth the effort if downscaling it.

If you cancel, sign up again at a later date, sign up to the same package* then previously recorded programmes will still be there and available for viewing.

    * If for example you previously had the movies as part of your pack or HD and you sign up again at a later date without movies or without HD then you wont be able to watch those. Non subscription Movies/programmes recorded from the likes of RTE or BBC wont be affected subject to the HD scenario.

If its any help Sky have their own Talk to forum here on Boards where you can get the reps to answer questions from 1:00 - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday
