    Hi Folks,

I will try to keep to the points.

    My scenario......
Recently left a Fulltime job, to pursue another career -self employed.
I was going to supplement this with a part-time job I had been promised. This is no longer and I have confirmation from employer stating so.

I want to apply for job seekers benefit. I have paid enough tax in previous years etc.
I have everything they want....... except lease.

I am living in a relatives home paying a low rent. The relative is in a home and will not be coming out. This is where it gets complicated.

His costs are state assisted and also the rent I pay goes towards this. At all costs, I can not do anything to risk his current situation.

So, as far as I can see it, I have three options.

    1) tell social I pay no rent at said address and see if they will still pay me. I am paranoid that this could still rock the boat.

    2) Use false details on address - this feels illegal and also probably fail due to not receiving mail etc

    3) just forget about dole and try to keep my head above water without it.

does anyone have any thougts ? again, I can not risk impacting my relatives current state assisted situation.

    Thanks in advance.

Are you self employed at present?

Yes self employed at present but no income yet and it'll be a slow burner for a while with little or no income

Thanks. Will read all that again.

The crux of my question though, is based on proof of address and rent bring paid. If I was paying class A PRSI etc, can this rent situation make or break my claim for JSB ?

You must be available for and actively seeking work in order to qualify for JSB as you are self employed you will not qualify for same.
