Intercooler fault - covered by warranty?

    Hi,

Bought a used car (Jaguar XF) from a fairly well known dealer in Dublin a few months back.

I left it in to Spirit to get a routine service done but they informed me that the intercooler is split and needs to be replaced - an 800 euro job.

The garage I originally bought the car off sold it with a warranty covering engine and gear box. Would I have a good case to get them to cover the above work on the warranty - on the basis the intercooler is part of the engine?

    -Thanks

If it's still under warranty I'd imagine you have a strong case. The intercooler is very much part of the engine.

How do you know? The replacement intercooler could be €700 from Jaguar.

Did you ask the dealer that sold car yet?

Not yet, just getting some opinions at the moment. I think I've a good case. As Henry said the intercooler is a vital component of the engine.

    It's a known fault, apparently.

New intercooler in the UK is around £200.

Can you reference the known fault so OP have a source?

Does a lot depend on the price you paid and the age ?? - I mean if you paid say a grand for the car - can you expect a warranty to cover everything - ( by the way I'm not even sure what an inter cooler is (radiator type thing??) so my opinion is worth less than nowt !! )

The intecooler cools the air going into the engine (so extra air can be pumped in and give more boost). Yeah kinda looks like a radiator.

I did a quick search when first reading this thread and came across a list of known xf faults. The intercooler was amongst near the top of the list.

But I'll be damned if I can find it again now. :(
