Just told my contract was terminated

    Hi Folks,

In terms of getting a letter for the reasons of social welfare, does the employer or agency have to give you a letter saying so much?? Is there any legislation which states that a company or agency must give the reason in writing?
I was working shift, thought everything was going fine, next day I get a call from the agency saying my work was terminated. He wouldn't give me a reason till i pushed him then said it was a downturn in business. For one, that was bull**** as things were ramping up if anything and they just took on 2 more people. I said as much to him but he kept to his guns. Now I'm finding it nearly impossible to get any written confirmation of this simply for the social welfare and JSB....

    Any ideas anyone?

    Cheers

    R

Normally the write out to the employer from the social welfare asking for a reason, just go to the social welfare with your P45 and see what happens.

You must have some inkling why they terminated your contract surely?

If they were ramping up with staff was it internal staff, or through the agency you were with.

The problem with being through an agency is that an employer can drop you like a hot snot if they wish at any stage in your first 12 months. They just tell the agency they dont want you and say no more.

It is poor form from your agency that they gave you a poor excuse of an excuse, but in the temp game is is just numbers to them.

If you're employed directly by the company, they can drop you at any time in the first 12 months, with no need to give a reason.

If you're with an agency, this can happen at any time.

OP, as stated, it sucks, but it happens. Just to go Welfare and explain, let them chase the paper.

Best of luck finding work elsewhere.

    No inkling at all....

Anyway thanks for the replies all. So I guess its up to welfare to chase them, I can only do so much to ask why it was terminated...
