My mate is coming over from NY to hang out tomorrow until Monday.
Shame he's missing culture night tonight but wondering what's on that's either free or doesn't cost the earth over the weekend.
He's staying in The Gibson, my car is kaput at the mo so we only have the option of public transport.

I know he loves Jazz so I'm looking out for a nice pub that will be playing non pretentious jazz, if that's possible ;) tomorrow night... suggestions welcome.

Thinking of getting the dart out to greystones and or Dun Laoghaire too if the weather is nice.

All-Ireland Final is on Sunday at Croke Park and Ireland's RWC opener is on tomorrow(but that's not in Ireland). Something to bear in mind if you're going out.

I've been to Scotch and Soda and Behind the Dark and would recommend both

Really nice if it's not raining!

+1 for these two. Went to both as well and would definitely recommend them. Your friend will most certainly not have been to anything like behind the dark before and Scotch & Soda is absolutely brilliant.

Have a load of cousins coming over for the weekend and looking for things to do (by theatre friends) and have been recommended this too... it looks cool! Just booked tickets there, it's pricey enough, was €35 per ticket.. had to buy 5!! But it does look amazing!

Yeh its pricey enough and you're going to the even pricier show at that price (presume its a Saturday show or something?)!

Behind the Dark is €12 I seem to remember and well worth it. Its short so you aren't standing around in the middle of Pheonix park in pitch black for too long!

Think the Dublin Oktoberfest festival is on at this weekend as well, down by the IFSC somewhere, could be worth calling in for a few pints.

Long drive to Kerry for the day though?

I think I would actually stay away from the jazz options if your mate sees a lot of it in New York! There is some kind of street party on in Smithfield tomorrow with some trad on courtesy of the Cobblestone - not sure what it would be like but free to look anyway - google bluefire smithfield.

There's meant to be a protest march tomorrow, which doesn't seem to be getting much traction but usually leaves a lot of the shops and pubs empty when there's even a rumour of one.

Scotch and Soda is a jazz/circus/theatre combo in the Spiegeltent tonight as part of the fringefest. I'm going tonight and there are still tickets available, friends of mine went last night and said it was amazing!
