Hi.Just wondering are weekends dead on campus? Do most first years head home for the weekend? Thanks:)

Not sure about on campus, but considering that a good chunk of the places available on the UCD accommodation pad are Monday to Friday only, I'd reckon they do.

Not to say you won't be able to find anything to do over the weekend though, I think the cinema goes on throughout the weekend and the gym stays open AFAIK. Then there's meetups and societies...

When I started in UCD, I used to find campus especially depressing on weekends, with the icy winds flapping the posters on the vast, deserted concrete malls. Nobody around except a handful of postgraduates and dog-walkers.

As I became more familiar with Dublin, and moved off-campus, I loved weekends: I'd socialise on the weekends in the city, and devote my weekdays to study. Grades improved significantly.

In short, if you don't know Dublin very well, or you don't have many Dublin friends yet, just go home.

However, when you become more familiar with the city and carve out your own social life here, you'll probably prefer staying up, although Belfield will always remain horrible on weekends.

Hi! Thanks for replying. Home is as far as you can get on this island, and I really don't want that journey every weekend. I am not applying to Queen's Belfast because everybody goes home at weekends, but if the situation is no better in Dublin, I may apply to Scotland/England.

I just can't understand why everyone wants to go home, I can't wait to get away!
