How to find out what plane is flying overhead

Hello On occasion, a plane fly's overhead, very very low. The first time I thought it might crash into the house. If I note the exact time and direction it's flying, how would I find out what plane it is and where it's going etc? Thanks in advance for any help.

http://www.flightradar24.com/ will usually show the majority of planes live overhead.
