I was looking at a Cosmo V500 Fertiliser Spreader recently. Manual shut/off and will take a big 500 Kg bag.
Liked the simple design of it, but noticed where the PTO shaft goes onto the spreader drive shaft, there is only a simple cross hole with a bolt going through. No spline or machined inferface. Has this caused any problems for those of you that have one?
    Was quoted €1650 new, BTW.

Jesus that’s very keen patsy. There’d be no sense bothering with a second hand one at that.
I think my abbey has the same setup on the pto and gives no problem.

Ya that's what I was thinking too. Saw a few second hand for circa €900 and all had a good bit of rust. Our old Vicon is beyond repair. Must have it over 40 years and I don't think it was bought new.

I wouldn’t think much of a bolt through it. It will get loose eventually. A roll pin is what should be through that.

Keen price. How much extra for hyd shut off ? And or the extension , so that you don’t loose fertilizer slopping over when spreading rough ground . Some spreaders are only the bare size they are quoted to hold.

I'd agree with all that. I've worked on the design of drive shafts on industrial machines and nearly always used a slotted keyed design with proper toleranes on both bore and shaft. I think the rolled pin would be better alright.
Didnt get a price on the extras.

Patsy, any idea of the spreading width on that spreader? Or wagtails in general?
Have only ever had disks here & need to upgrade also.

See pic. Spreading chart on hopper says 8 to 12 metres for 20.10.10 which is similar to 18.6.12 I take it. Manual does say it can be adjusted to spread to 12 to 15 metres.

Anyone use the different sspread widths on these spreaders. IE change the setting with the special key?

A vicon beyond repair? I've a 1976 steel hopper vicon that's still going strong.

Well I bought the Cosmo as above. On hindsight, I think the bolt I mentioned above is a shear bolt, so I left it as is.

As for adjusting the spreading width, I opened up the mechanism to have a look. These are some photos of it.
Basically, there are 3 settings, low, medium and high. I left mine at high, the way I got it.
To change it, you take off the top black plastic part and rotate the plastic part underneath. The top plastic always goes on the same way. It's the arrow on the second plastic that you rotate. This will effectively rotate the metal part, with bearing underneath. This controls the swing angle of the wagtail spout.
