Will my new driving licence still allow me to use moped?

My current full driving license covers me for a moped (B). It expires in November (after 10 years of having it). When I renew it will the moped still be on it or will I have to do a test?

If you have a full AM on the license, once you specify it when renewing it should continue. Stuff like this gets grandfathered in.

If you have the B since November '05, what you'll have should be AM, B and W. The NDLS will (read: should) add all your entitlements without asking but make sure you ask if they are all being added. You will never lose the entitlement for AM unless it is removed from your licence for 10 years or more.

NB: If your current licence does not have the AM category *marked on it DO NOT let your current licence expire- go and renew it early so you don't lose the AM entitlement. You can do so up to 3 months early.

*A lot of people have the AM, B & W entitlements since prior to '06 when the rules changed but were given a licence with only the B on it. People did know that the B licence meant they were allowed to ride scooters and drive tractors but the fact is, if your licence doesn't have a category that you have an entitlement for, then you can't drive vehicles in that category and the unused entitlement will be lost eventually.
