    Hi

Currently looking for an 8x5 livestock trailer with sheep decks. After just getting a eye watering quote for an Ifor Williams (at discount) looking at alternatives unless can pick up a 2nd hand one. Only requirements really are well made, not to heavy and fold away decks.

Have looked at some such as Crooks, but no fold away decks is real issue for me. Anyone have any recommendations on makes or manufacturers that might fit the bill?

Murphy (aerlite) in Tuam are worth checking out Cran. I know a fella with a 8x5 with fold up decks he got from them and he's right happy with it and he's buying lambs for butchers so doing a share of road with it. http://www.aerlite.com/8_ft_Livestock_Trailers.html

Keep your name in with boys in naas. The Ivor Williams do come in second hand from time to time and oddly the decks dont exact much of a premium 2 nd hand.

Graham Edwards have fold away decks, but you're going to be screwed with the exchange rate

    the decks actually wind away.

Don't see either up our way here in cavan. Was looking at a Hamilton last week in McCorry Agri just on the cavan fermanagh border, to be told I couldn't buy it, it's sold, and there is a two year waiting list for new ones !

Would fold up decks not take up a lot of room in an 8x5 when folded?

Just put in decks as you need them.

Aerlite would be my recommendation. Have same trailer with no decks but loads of them around here with the decks and they look tidy.

Think of the day you are trading in for a new or bigger one. You'll get good resale on her.

P.s. buying a second hand trailer is dodgey. How do you know it's not knicked?

Guess its buy from a trusted source really, new would be preferable but proving pricey as would be a 2nd trailer have a large Ifor W.

The ifor ones have a number pressed into the front "V" that tow bar sits on. You can ring and check them out.

Whites in Abbeyshrule have a couple , but no decks might be worth a quick phone call, dealt with them years ago.

was looking at a murphy (tuam) a few years & 1 thing that put me off was the small side door was just 1 large door ,

    have a 8x5 williams with old decks here , it's a keeper

I very nearly bought a second hand murphy (kerry) a few years ago. They would be very light and easy to tow, but what put my off it was when I was lifting up the back ramp there was a flexing in it, ie hold the ramp on one side and shake and I could see the movement or flexing on the other side.
After that I looked at the aerlites which I though were right good trailers, but ended up going for an ifor, as I thought they were finished that bit better. But having said that there was nothing at all wrong with the aerlites, and I'd rate them highly.

Would you look into a tuff Mac? We bought a 12ft and are quite happy with what we got.
