One of the Governments initiatives to mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising is to have a Tricolour & a copy of the 1916 Rebel proclamation delivered to each & every every primary school in the land.

St Patrick's National School in Islandeady, Co Mayo, has been selected as the 1st school to be presented with the national flag and proclamation.

A ceremony at each primary school will see members of the Defences Forces arrive, raise the flag, and read the proclamation out loud to pupils and teachers alike.

They will also give background information on the symbolism of the Tricolour (Green White & Orange) and the etiquette attached to its display and storage.

The countrywide project forms part of the State's effort to mark the 1916 rising centenary.

They will also be encouraged to research their own family history back 100 years ago and to see what their ancestors were doing in the period around the 1916 Rising.

PS; There's a very good piece in the RTE player from Monday's SiX One News!
...for some reason I can't attach it. (Well worth a look).
