BTEA/means test

My fiance and I co-habit. We were both on BTEA/JSA of €156pw. I got a job and signed off. The SW requested a copy of my payslip from my fiance to means test him. In the meantime his JSA jumped up to the full €188. He got a letter this morning saying he was approved for BTEA for his final year. In the same envelope was a letter saying he was means tested to ~€250pw (whatever that means) I'm confused! I was under the impression that BTEA wasn't means tested, so does this mean in 2 weeks time he'll be on a full €188 or back down to the €156 he was on last year? I just strikes me as odd that his money would increase now that I'm earning so does this mean he'll be getting less?

Please excuse the blond-moment, I just can't wrap my head around it for some reason :P
