    Hi,

Looking at trading up from my 06 Fiesta which I've had for 2 years.

Was looking at the Skoda Fabia, Ford Fiesta and Hyundai i20.

The Fabia is turning out to be too expensive, and so is the Fiesta in the better engine models.

I went in to look at the i20 today and was very impressed. It's the Deluxe model - so Air-con, Bluetooth, Cruise Control, Parking sensors, Lane departure warning etc).

The price quoted for the new i20 with Metallic paint was €17,200.

Dealer also mentioned that they have a 152 reg car which has been out on a lease I think for the last 3 months. It is coming back in 2 weeks and will be available for €16,200. Will have approximately 10,000km on the clock.

Would I be mad to even consider the "nearly new" model? It will still have a warranty of 4 years and 9 months and our budget is pretty tight, so a grand off is nothing to be sniffed at.

I'd want more than €1000 off for a car with 10k kms on it.

especially when you see the way they're driven.
very popular hire car this year.
ask them If they have any demos in non metallic for the same price. they might find one with zero mileage.

Only a grand off for a used car? Not a chance!

Call me cynical, but a 3 month old car sounds like a return.

He said it is registered to the dealer, so I guess that would be easy enough to find out

nah, you get 3 month hire drives too. herws never enough money off them vs a demo though

rental cars would be registered to the dealer too.

In dealer's words: "it is out with a Pharmaceutical company we do business with"

more likely it's scraping off walls between Doolin and the cliffs of moher while the driver attempts to change gear without using the clutch.

    Sad but true.

Most of the rental fleets are now returning to dealer forecourts as the tourist season is over. Some are 3 months old while others are 6. An ex-rental would want to be alot cheaper than just a grand over a brand new car to be even half tempting. As the lads said most of them get treated rough.

and it's not like the dealer is buying them back for peanuts either. I'd imagine a brand like hyundai chasing market share in Ireland put the dealers under fierce pressure to register more cars.

Yeah but they'll be giving a few quid more to the dealer to register hire drives too.

Personally speaking I don't believe in a garage doing hire drives, pre regs make more sense to me.

That takes me back. In one of my previous existences I used to work for a rental company processing incidences and insurance claims. Some of the excuses/reasons put forward for damage to the cars were legendary.

One of my favourites was the American gentleman who claimed that the lamppost shaped dent in the grille of a two month old Avensis was caused by a particularly vengeful badger.

Badgers do serious damage when hit. Much worse than other typical roadkill.
