Renault Clio 2003

I know I had a thread the other day about the beamer.

But, myself and the oul fella were talking, and I rarely use the car anymore, don't even use it for the commute.

He said although I love bigger cars as they're nicer he thinks I'm stupid to get a 2.0L as the tax would be ridiculous on a car like that when it's not being take for long haul journeys often - I only use the car spin to the gym when I'm home and around town the weekend or to Dublin at the weekend.

    Suppose it makes sense.

Also any decent 03-05 beamers are fetching 3k.

I have an 03 Clio lined up with a dealer. He's looking for 2k but he will give me €1500 trade in value for my own car and accept €500 for the Clio.

Is this a good deal? And are the Clio's alright? My cousin has had an 05 one years and he minds it and never seems to have huge trouble, for a small car they seem ok to drive.

Should I go for it? Or stick with my love of big cars and keep on the beamer hunt?

    Just for reference

My thoughts are, you don't like the 93 as much as your old 3 series. The Clio will be more basic again. You're also paying €1500 to go back a year to a car that was half the price new.

    There's so much middle ground between a 3 series/93 and a Clio.

No no, you must have read it wrong.

He's giving me €1500 for my SAAB and I'm giving €500 for the Clio.

I know it's a year older, but I don't chase number plates, once it's running well.

And I know I said no rush with selling my own but my dad was over swapping his BMW Z3 for an Avensis and went over for a look and spotted the Clio.

    Oh, I have you now.

Surely something like a 1.6 A3 would be the best compromise?
Better interior than the Saab, (slightly) smaller engine, handy sized, possible to get them with nice toys

Assumed a 03-05 Audi would be very expensive? Have a budget of about 2k - but hoping to make 1200-1700 back on my own (it's perfect, it's just I don't really like it at all, too much like an Opel).

Also would a 1.6 not be very similar in petrol usage to the 1.8?

Hate making these decisions.. love the beamers, just can't justify having one outside the door when I don't use the car for going far.

Surely not doing a lot of milage is the perfect time to have the car you like.
