    Hey all,

So a while back I posted to ask for suggestions about what device I should get that would allow me to stream my local media, and watch things like Netflix and TV.

I was almost universally pointed to Kodi but.... I think it's fairly shyte TBH :o .. don't get me wrong, I've watched enough YouTube videos to see that it CAN be very impressive but the amount of configuration, trial and error, and forum surfing needed to get the most out of it is very off-putting. 10 years ago I'd happily have spent days/weeks playing with it but nowadays I just want something that works :p

Nevertheless I did set it up on an old laptop and tried various repositories but streams were generally unreliable, poor quality and the amount of setup needed for most of them is ridiculous... I mean, haven't these people heard of installers? :p

Anyway, I've since discovered that Plex isn't half-bad these days and works very well with the Roku streaming stick I bought, which also lets me use Miracast from the laptop..... but, it doesn't support much in the way of TV.

Soooo.. what I want is a simple box with a real/regular remote control that supports Plex and will (easily) allow me to watch things like RTE .. I don't need "dodgy" Sky streams as I have a Sky Go account for that content but it'd be nice to have an easy to use all-in-one box for the rest.

Does such a thing exist or is there no option but to get one of those Android boxes and persevere with Kodi?

What makes you believe that the streams using any other software will be any better?

As I understand it, the same streams are used ...... but would be delighted to read I am wrong ;)

There is a SkyGo addon that works on Kodi.

Scratch that. Just found out there's been a change to SkyGo in the last couple of weeks.

Plex is only useful for a local or shared library. The plugin support is woeful.

In a similar position, and with xmas coming I've to find my own present this year ;-)

So looking for a box that can stream local content, I have a plex server. Also would be great if I can cast my andriod feed to the TV.

Oh and has to be family friendly...

    Thanks

From what I undertand, the streams for live content can be hit or miss, whatever box you use.I am looking for one,for use with a non wifi tv,for Netflix account,I see boxes for 69/79/89/euro..looking at the boxes, they seem to be all the same?
