I have noticed that there are new signs at most of the stations on the Kildare lines "2-3-4 car stop" most of them are still covered. But a few have already been unveiled!

When do they plan to start using them, as in the drivers stopping at the signs & yellow lines?

They go live in "Autumn", so that's really narrowing it down!

I think that the some drivers are already practising as one stopped half way between the sign and where he usually stops at the end of the platform tonight.
I wonder why they decided to change the where the trains stop on the platform, after all they have the monitors at the end but don't seem to use them.

they've been in place on the DART line for a couple of years, but adherence by drivers has been inconsistent (particularly commuter/intercity trains stopping at DART stations) - does seem to be improving though.

the idea I guess is to save people from having to run from one end of the platform to the other when a short train pulls in. To be truly effective they would have to tell us on the PIS that the next train is short so people can position themselves on the platform in advance - this is what they do in Paris and London. I've see it only once here, in Pearse (presumably testing) but that was some time ago.

That's because quite frankly, the PIS systems at Irish Rail stations and on trains (apart from the Original DARTS) are quite frankly very poor* compared to most cities around Europe.

Having been to the UK and Germany in recent weeks honestly the difference couldn't be more stark when it comes to quality, reliability and detail of information.

    * that is of course when they are working.

They don't need to use them on the 22000 as live CCTV can be viewed on the doors. They only have them on the Quad track section because DART's will run at some stage although most of us may never see that day as the long finger gets longer every 4 years.

Only useful really for busy stations Connoly side.

Perhaps the petty union's may delay that as they plan to either do stoppages or work to rule before all out strikes are considered.

Over the past few days I've noticed that some drivers are now stopping at the signs, but most are not.

Either some have jumped the gun or the rest are ignoring the instructions.

If you are talking about the Kildare line signs they are in use 2 or 3 weeks now.

Yes, the Kildare line, most drivers seem to ignore the rule and still go to the end.
It could be because the passengers are still waiting at the end.

It's the same on the DART. No consistency!

Portarlington has had this sign on the Up Platform for well over a year now and I find that 99% of 3 or 4ICR trains I get towards Heuston stop at the correct mark. I cannot speak yet for any of the other stations.

The 1% time it didn't was the 1505 Galway - Heuston one evening the driver stopped at the end of the platform. Rather annoying as I was slightly late and had to run up the platform.

So to recap I find that Portarlington has worked very well and been well received by Customers.

Over the past couple of weeks, the trains are nearly always stopping at the sign now.
But many of the passengers don't appear to have got the message and still stand in their usual spot and have to dash back up the platform to get on!
I wonder if they even know about the signs?
