We are looking for a minimoon venue in Killarney in October, hoping to stay 3 or 4 nights, ideally a lovely hotel with a spa, something that is totally and utterly relaxing. Ideally would like to be within a walk of a town rather than totally secluded but open to ideas.

    Any recommendations welcome!

You can't beat the Europe for relaxation - it's not walkable to town really, but there's no real need to go to town either. We adore it, it's so recharging. They have good offers for 3 nights BB&2D usually. Get a lake view tho

We had a weekend break in the Europe in Killarney a month before we got married and I could not recommend it highly enough. The spa is incredible, I could live in their outdoor hot tub and the views are something else. It is worth getting a lake view room, even if its lashing rain it is breathtaking. The food is also great, they have a few different places to eat so you have options. I know its a bit further from town but you wont need to leave the hotel and if you do, they have shuttles to take you into town.

After we got married in August, we took a few days in Parknasilla outside Kenmare and while it was a lovely spot, it was definitely more of a family hotel. Lots of kids and no peace and quiet. The spa didnt even compare to the Europe, tbh we both wished we had gone back there!

Enjoy it, you will be shattered from all the excitement and its so lovely to have time just the two of you to reflect on what has transpired.

I really liked the europe as well but. I found it a tiny bit clinical and impersonal and dont think id fork out for it again. I think id go to the spa again and maybe stay in one of the other, smaller hotels eg. Ard na sidhe. Would love to try The Park in kenmare also.

Not a hotel but check out cottages for couples......most have a private hot tub, you could always go to a nearby hotel for spa etc

We actually stayed in The Park the two nights after our wedding (we got married in Kenmare). Its pretty and old word but a bit old fashioned for me and very pricey, even compared with the Europe.
It seems perfect for americans and the foreign market but just a little old fashioned for my tastes. Now to be fair, we only arrived at 5am on the night of our wedding and didnt spend much time there the following night either so didnt use the facilities to full extent! Loved the spa though, again lovely views too. The service was fabulous too.

Id love to try Sheen Falls sometime actually.
Fits Ard na Sidhe is supposed to be amazing! that might go on my list too.

OP If you wanted to go somewhere east instead, the Cliff House in waterford is beautiful or Castlymartyr?

The cliff house is very expensive though too. I have looked it up a few times. Maybe it justifies the cost, i dunno. We stayed in a fabulous four seasons resort on honeymoon on half board basis, with amazing food, location and facilities for cheaper money. Like, its just mental.

I just checked again and they are looking for 355 euro for 3 course dinner in the bar, bed and breakfast. On a tuesday. In september. Lol.

We went to the cottages for couples on our mini moon.

It is loverly I will say you don't really have a choice but to do nothing and it is lovely to relax in the hot tub with a book or a glass of vino..
It isn't as close walking wise to town you can walk but id say maybe 20mins.. While Skibb is quite a gem and nice to see jes the people there are defo smoking something :) in a nice way. There isn't an awfull lot to do there bar go to the pub.

You can arrange for a massage as far as I remember I think they will come to the cottage if you like.

What kinda of things do ye like to do then..

Been to a few places in Galway and that which is great Galways is a fab spot..

What about hayfield manor in cork? Within walking distance of centre and has a spa?

Oh I totally agree Fits, its so expensive but I suppose if you are ever going to spend the money, Honeymoon/ minimoon is the time!

Cheers for all the suggestions! Unfort The Europe is fully booked for that week, as is Cottages for Couples, totally our own fault for leaving it late to book!

Ended up going with The Malton in Killarney, they have a good deal on for 3 nights B&B, 2 evening meals, and booked in for spa treatments while we are there, and an afternoon tea too. REALLY looking forward to it now, just what the doctor ordered!

It is ideally situated so we can take a wander into the town if we want, and if not it will be 4 days of sleeping!!

That will be loverly Mimojo, ye will be delighted with the break.

The cottages I do believe get booked up pretty quickly...We booked ours well in advance so we were lucky.

Are ye waiting a few days after the big day to go or heading straight away... Spa treatments sounds like heaven

Gabys restaurant there is suppose to be very nice especially if you like seafood

Have stayed in the Park twice before as well and LOVE that as well. Completely different to the Europe but love the personal touch from the 2 brothers at the Park (and the antiques and the fact you are already inside Kenmare town)
Hope the weather's nice so ye can go up the gap of dunloe! tip: don't try to drive up there like we did :-o

Oh my god it's an absolute nightmare. Horse & carts, hikers, twisty narrow roads, poor signage, you can forget about google maps working up there.....
It was a glorious day we attempted and it was a nightmare so it would have been even worse on a wet miserable day. Best bet is to either hike it, cycle it or else just drive to Kate Kearney's cottage and set off from there

I have driven the Gap on a number of occasions, no problem. Jarveys can be a bit rude, but it IS a public road.

I didn't find it enjoyable. I couldn't enjoy or appreciate the views as I was too focused on driving a very difficult road. So only 1 person gets to see it. If you go up there by alternative means, both people do. It's just not the best way to see or appreciate it, there are far better ways
