Yes, I've done it but I did it privately, not sure if that option is available on the public system

Privately, absolutely. I've had to go to Dublin (from Cork also) for a second opinion at the recommendation of one of the consultants I was attending when I told him the problem I was having with the other consultant writing off my issue as 'just tendonitis'. Turns out I was absolutely right to go to Dublin. Only pain with it, is it's not just the initial consultation you'll be travelling up for, it's any tests you have to have done within a few weeks, and then surgery, follow-ups etc. People asked could I not have had the tests done down here or the surgery, but as I said, that's why I went up to see this person in the first place, to get their expertise so will do everything that goes with it through the people they use.

Just keep that in mind, there's a lot of travel cost and time involved, however, if it means you're going to the right person, then it'll be well worth it.

Wouldn't have a clue about the public system if that's where you are sorry!
