    Hi
Some considerate gentleman relieved me of my roadbike over the last few weeks.
Any idea where the majority of dublin bikes end up?

Anyways I must purchase a replacement.
I'll spend somewhere between 800 and 1200 probably.
Would be open to buying one second hand for sure - but preference is probably a new set of wheels.

    Suggestions would be welcomed please.
I dont use it for commuting.

    Thanks,
    Frog

If you're spending that kind of money, and you're not getting the bike on the Bike to Work scheme then I think you'd get much better value going secondhand from a reputable local bike shop or trusted source/seller.

    Far better value.

its amazing the 'deals' you can get on adverts or donedeal.
    truly amazing.
Amazing also how many people are selling at rock bottom prices cause they're 'leaving the country' or 'upgrading'.

Suggestions re make/model etc to aim for at this pricetag would be really appreciated.

    Or possibly stolen.

99.9% of these have probably been acquired under suspicious circumstances.

Anyways - what bikes should i be looking at?

i remember a thread here previously that recommended some bike shipped in parts from the UK - at a fraction of the regular retail price. Any ideas?

A Pinarello Dogma F8, I think it may be slightly out of your price range and it's not a particularly attractive bike...in my opinion.

    £10k-ish
I dont have that to spend on a bike tbh.

I'm sure they do replica versions though?
Or maybe the Pinarello Dogma F1 is an 1/8 of the price?

All I see are Treks around this city - which i'm sure are great.

The purpose of this original post was merely to get some suggestions from people who not a lot more about bikes than I ever will.

This one. Defy frame is a belter and i know some people think Giant are rubbish but i have one of these in a lesser spec and the frame is super stiff and really fast. 1100 but if paying cash the guys in Giant on the long mile road would give you a great discount and always throw in extras and offer great after sales service along with have one of the best mechanics i've seen.

I've the Defy 2 which I bought as a first road bike in March, very happy with it. A few punctures but nothing out of the ordinary. Found the Tiagra to be well up to the job and no complaints really.

Seemed to be a bit cheaper than the similar speced bikes by other brands.

    What about Cube?

Plus - shouldnt you be getting a bit of carbon in your frame (forks etc) for that sort of wedge?

you won't get any carbon for <1000. above has carbon fork and 105 groupset.

giant use composite which i believe is carbon and just use a different process of creating the frames and forks so basically the defy 1 has carbon forks and seat post
