Which rum as a gift

I'm looking for a rum, I have up to €100/150 to spend.

It's a gift for a guy who knows his rum (he lived in the Caribbean for a few years)

I need something that will be reasonably easy to obtain.
Btw I'm in cork, so suggestions from Bradleys or the abbots would be great.

I don't mind if I have to get two bottles of €75 rum.

There aren't many rums about the 150 mark - most at that price point on specialist sites are 40+ year old bottles (not 40 year aged) of very generic product - so the two lower priced is probably a better idea.

I'd look at maybe getting an aged rum and a overproof rum - two fairly different experiences - and probably stick with a Carribean made brands. Wray & Nephew is the only overproof I've ever seen on sale in Ireland though.

Check the Abbot's and see if they still have Zapatera. Amazing, expensive rum.

Ron Zacapa is really good. I've only had the 23yo.
The bottle/packaging are nice too.

Angostura Rum is most probably the best rum ive ever drank.

The Darker rums are the bee's knees

We like Appleton Estate rums but it seems that only their 12 year old is available now which is a really nice sipping rum but still only €60 or so. It can be ordered from the drinkstore which I believe deliver.

I've not had the 23yo but what ever Zacapa I've had made sure I'll never buy another. Awful overly sweet stuff. Worst dutyfree purchase ever.
