    Hi All

is there anyway of identifying is some ceiling tiles are asbestos ? I have photos but don't think Boards.ie allow images in posts anymore.

Even if you can recommend another forum were someone wiser than me can look at these pictures and give guidance as I'm getting a bit panicy about this.

    Many Thanks

    Sam

You'll need 50 posts before you can stick up images. I wouldn't take chances with advice by photograph, anyway. You'd be better off being on the safe side and getting an expert in to take a look.

Asbestos is only dangerous when it gets into the air as dust particles and is inhaled so don't be panicking, just don't try taking the tiles down before getting professional advice. Expect to pay and arm and a leg to get asbestos professionally removed and disposed of, the council recycling places won't take them.

The good news is that doing nothing is an option, see below.

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown co. co. advice on the topic .....

If asbestos-containing material is present in a building or structure, this does not necessarily mean that it must be removed. It may sometimes be a safer option to maintain the asbestos in place, rather than to remove or disturb the material, and thus increase the risk of releasing asbestos fibres into the air. Asbestos must always be removed before a building is demolished, to prevent the risk of the fibres spreading and contaminating the surrounding area

If they can be removed without damaging them,As they only cause problems when you break them the dust gets airborne.
Double bag the tiles and get a firm that does removal of asbestos, and they will issue you with a cert to prove correct disposal has taking place.

If the tiles are not already painted with water-soluble paint:
    Roll on a mixture of PVA:water (1:5)
Allow to dry - then caulk the joints with bonding
Scrim over joints with either self adhesive or jointing tape
    Roll on ThistleBond-it
Allow to dry and skim out.
