TV in new location

I moved my TV from one side of the room (nearest the outside wall) to the other. I won't go into why but it was necessary and I won't be moving it back. My problem now is that the aerial/cable coming from the satellite on the roof in through a hole in the front wall (semi-detached house) can't reach the TV in its new location. The chimney breast is in between the two locations so if I extended the cable, I'd have to go around the fireplace and that would be too messy.

I have a digital receiver box and was getting plenty of channels with that. I can't afford to pay SKY or Eircom for a package. Is there anyway I can use my existing satellite again or do will I just need to get an internal aerial and rely on Saorview? If anyone can advise me on what my options are, I would be very grateful.

    Many thanks,

    S

An internal aerial may not even work within the house, it depends on how good the signal is where the aerial is located, only by testing with the aerial will you know.

You don't have a satellite on the roof, it is 23,000 miles above the equator.

The only way to feed your dish to your TV is via a cable either in front of the fireplace, under the floorboards, or in the ceiling void, or possibly round the room the other way going round the doorframe.

An internal aerial may not work either for Saorview so you could still have the same problem.

You could run a new cable down from the satellite on the roof to the new location. A cable placed in a plastic conduit running down the corner of the wall can blend in neatly. If you're not happy doing this yourself get an engineer out. The other option is to run an extension from the existing cable along the skirting boards, again if it in a conduit it can be made to blend in and could be the least conspicuous option.
If the floor is carpeted you could run a cable around the perimeter under the carpet, keeping it close to the gripper strip. You may need to get a carpet fitter to restretch the carpet for a neater job.

Did you not read my post? There is no satellite on the roof. It is 23,000 miles above the equator.

Saorview is no replacement for free-to-air satellite. Freeview is the UK equivalent, can be received in some parts of ROI & works on Saorview receivers, though you'd be lucky to be in a place where an indoor aerial would be any good.

Winston_1 a few months ago I told you the following. As it's been a while I am giving you the benefit of a reminder, but it still applies. You can comply with it or else you are leaving me with no option but to ban you.

winston_1 I am very very hesitant to hand out a ban over something as trivial as this but you keep derailing threads over nitpicking.

I am now asking you to confine yourself in your responses to posts to addressing the substantive issues at hand and please ignore trivialities like spelling and job titles. If you fail to abide by this I will have to give you a ban as you have now been told several times.

Everyone else can I ask you not to reply to winston_1's post if he does this again. Use the report post button please.

    Hi ICDG,

I wanted to send you a PM but I can't seem to find that facility on these forums.

I thought these forums were to help members and that includes correcting them when they are wrong which helps prevent confusion to others.
A dish is clearly not a satellite.
When someone refers to their equipment as a satellite it could be the dish, the receiver, or the whole installation; but none of them are correct of course.

Your are entitled to your opinion but I don't consider this a triviality.
