8.5 kw Gainsborough for 52euro is definitely worth taking. You might not get internal parts for it too handy, but if you got a few years out of it you would certainly be up on the investment.

To what extent can the amateur install this without an approved electrician? I mean the plumbing is not complicated so can I run a cable to the fusebox and call a sparks to do the rest?

Not quite as simple as that...
Depending on distance of cable to the fuseboard will dictate the size of the cable. Also you must have a correctly rated isolation (pull cord) switch and the cable must be one continous run.
I doubt there are many electricians that would be willing to connect up and sign off on a cable that they have not installed themselves.

In that case, what price would you expect to pay to have one installed?

Probably get a more accurate answer to that on the Electrical Forums

So long as you know what you're getting, seems like an alright price, but is it tank fed or mains water supplied for the cold?

If its the E50 model, which is the only one that I can see that looks the same as the B & Q offer, then it is a Mains Fed unit.

    Gainsborough E50 Shower
Suitable for Cold Mains water supply only.
Minimum operating pressure - 0.07MPa (0.7 bar) (at a flow rate of 8 litres per minute)
