Air travel boarding pass

I frequently go abroad for 10 days or so and use both A.Lingus and R.Air or a combination of both for Outbound/Inbound. I still print out my boarding pass for R.Air. As you know you cant access/print out the return boarding pass more than one week before the return flight. I then just save the return boarding pass at the Hotel I'm staying at as a .pmg file and then eMail it to them and they print it out FOC.
My query is, can I use the .pmg file(s) saved on my smart phone and just swipe them etc WITHOUT having to use their App?.

Aer Lingus App allows you to check in on your mobile and they will send you a QR code which can be shown at the gate on your mobile (just make a screen grab of the QR in case of data connection problems at the gate and show from photos).

I think Ryanair do the same from their App but no experience of it so cannot be sure.

Saves the need for printing or carrying a boarding pass - so long as you have access to data or wifi when travelling and keep some battery life in the phone!

Thanks for that but I dont need WIFI at the Airport to view any eMail/.pmg file that I,ve previously looked at, I presume all smart phones are the same, so I can display the saved boarding passes complete with barcode etc, just wondering will the scanner pick this up if its not done the "App way".

Yes, the scanner will pick it up without issue.

Why not just use the FR App though & take a screenshot of the boarding pass?
