    Hi all,

What would a 2003 BMW 2.0L Diesel do?

It has just over 220,000 km (is that good or bad?).

I had a 1.9 BMW petrol, for just over 2 years but it drunk petrol, so switched to a 2004 Saab 93 1.8, which was actually much better on petrol - but I just can't get used to it after a few months, I want a BMW back and I see there is a few 2001-2005 Diesels floating about for reasonable enough prices.

Anyway, are they a good car? Also as above - what MPG would you get from a 320D?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi. Well I drive a 320 D, 3 door. I'm averaging 46mpg and 75 euro to fill from just after the light comes on. Personally I find them lovely to drive with nice power comfort.

    Hi,

    That sounds very good tbh.

I know a petrol you'd only get around 28-35 MPG. My Saab is 1.8 and does very well on petrol, 35 MPG usually.

Would be great to go back to a BMW though, and if a 320D does around 45-50 MPG then all the better.

Do you think a 2003 with 220,000 km would be fairly ok? Just through the NCT....

I drive an Eco dynamics version, not sure how far back that model goes but it's doing between 58-60mpg, I live in donegal so mainly open roads.

I had a '03 320d 6 speed recently and averaged about 45-46mpg aswell. 220,00kms is nothing to one, in fact it's reasonably low milage

220000 km is nothing on an engine that's well serviced and car is looked after. 6 speed gearbox on motorway does speed limit at 2000 revs. So very good on fuel. Of course everyone has head a bad story about every vehicle, my advice would be to try and find one with a good service history ! It's the best place to start.

Had a 2004 320d and put nearly 100k miles on it.

    I averaged between 46mpg and 48mpg.

However I also serviced it every 8k miles with new oil and filters.

I had this engine too, the bhp is a joke, 115 or so. the 2l diesel is 150bhp with a lot more torque, quite a solid engine, once the swirl flaps have been removed and it has a good service history...

I agree on a properly serviced engine it is not much BUT on that year bmw, it is on the coolant system and suspension, so have any car properly checked, prior to purchase...

Agree. But the 20d only had 150bhp then. My E90 remapped 20d got slightly better even with 200bhp.

    Thanks guys.

The one my dad went to look at earlier was full of rust.

    Won't be touching it.

Will keep my eyes peeled for a 2002-2005 one.

I'm in no rush - will try sell my own yoke in the mean time.
