Do you use an SPF on your face?

And if so what do you use and how?

I have an SPF face cream but if I put it on in the morning it makes my face very oily and then my foundation doesn't go on well.. My foundation itself has an SPF in it but I've never thought that's likely to be enough cover.

    Any tips? :)

Lisa Eldridge did a really interesting youtube video about spf recently, which is well worth a look at. But you should wear spf everyday, a medium broad spectrum spf doesn't need to be too heavy/sticky on your skin.
On holidays obviously wear something higher

I wear Estee Lauder daywear spf 50 most days, its a lovely product and great under make-up pricey though I usually buy it in the Loop. During winter when I barely see any daylight I may switch to a moisturiser or BB cream with spf.

I used to use an Olay moisturiser with spf 15 in it but I recently switched to a Simple moisturiser that has spf 30 in it. Neither of them feel greasy. I think the trick is to look for a moisturiser with an spf as opposed to just looking at the suncreams

Use a Clinique moisturiser that has spf 25 so don't use another product with it. Definitely not greasy.

I SPF 50 during summer and 30 in the winter. I'm currently using La Roche Posay light fluid but I'm always on the look out for new ones to try - the Clarins one is next on my list.

Is it essential to wear a separate SPF or is it enough as part of daily moisturizer or foundation? Which is all I'm currently doing.
When I lived abroad I used a separate higher SPF but I didn't think it was necessary here in Ireland, but maybe I'm wrong?

I use Clinique city block spf 25 as my moisturiser/sun cream. I wear Vichy serum underneath so it's hydrating enough for me. It's fine under foundation. On holidays this year I wore Dr jarts beauty balm spf40. It isn't great under foundation though as it makes my face shiny so I'd use bronzer with it

It depends on how high an SPF you want to use. Most moisturisers and foundations have SPF 15 or 20 so that rules them out for me as I have to wear 30 minimum.

    Thanks for the reply.

My current moisturizer has 15 and foundation depends on what I'm using. I guess I'm just unsure if I need higher, I don't burn easily and I can't see any sun damage right now but I'm unsure if I should be using something higher for my future self.

I think the consensus is we should all be wearing a separate spf of 25 or higher all year round. Its the best ant-ageing prevention that there is.

If you want to prevent skin ageing then you need to have UVA protection.

There's also some dermatologists that don't recommend using factor 50 etc all year round because the amount of extra chemicals needed to bring a medium spf to a high spf can cause a lot of other skin problems for a marginal improvement in protection.

As I mentioned above Lisa Eldridge did a very in depth youtube video on it and explained it very well!

Yes an spf with adequate UVA protection with the symbol on the packaging set by EU standards i.e. uva circled. This won't be in many moisturisers containing spf

I've heard there's also an argument against it on the basis of blocking Vitamin D production in winter when sun light is weak and can be very infrequent. Not sure how true that is, but it sounds like it would make sense?

I usually wear SPF30 that comes in my moisturiser if I'm just off to the office or whatever, but if I'm going to be outdoors it's spf50.

My vitamin D levels were actually very low last February/March time and have been taking extra supplements for several months now. My doctor said it was probably due to using products with SPF but I seem to be using way lower SPF compared to everyone else on this thread.

I use la rocha posay everyday! It's E20 a bottle but lasts about 9 months and is really light on the skin

I think if you are only going to be popping out and about for short periods of time then getting Vit D is more essential than SPF so don't bother, obviously if you are going for a long walk in the sun you need an SPF.
Yes the sun is aging on our skin but it's aging looking to have a zimmer frame because you got a low impact femur fracture due to osteoporosis in your 50s

I have very sensitive skin and have been recommended to wear SPF50 all of the time on my face. I use a little blob of La Roche Posay Factor 50 mixed in my hand with a blob of my La Roche Posay moisturiser. I have tried wearing the SPF + moisturiser + make up but I felt like everything was caked onto my face then with all the layers. Mixing the two together works much better, for me anyway.
