Cancún or Jamaica?

I'm looking for a holiday that's different, and with the new service to DUB next year with Thomson, I hope to get to either Cancún or Jamaica providing it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

My question: Which would people recommend? While there I hope to look around a little and venture to the local attractions. Which is safer, nicer, cheaper and basically better?

    Thanks :)

Cancun... Go all inclusive. I had a blast there, people are great and its very safe if you stay in the tourist areas.

    Cancun indeed.

Had many a better time in Mexico in my earlier days compared to Jamaica and am interested in this new service as well.

Would also appreciate others opinion on what to do and where to go.

Secrets Maroma (Cancun) is beautiful. Secrets are a worldwide chain with a few hotels in Mexico. We went to Maroma back in July, hotel is beautiful, its all inclusive, we had an ocean view room, which was gorgeous, no need to leave the resort. Staff were so friendly and they have a great sense of humour also. No kids there. Highly recommend it. Any questions, p.m. me.

We had a fantastic holiday in Sun Palace Cancun 2 years ago, hot tub in the room, 24 hr room service, tanqueray gin in the room mini bar. Made us packed lunches for day trips, arranged use of one of their sister hotels in Playa Del Carmen when we wanted to go scuba diving, couldnt fault it in any respect. Really good vibe from the locals too, looked happy in their work.

From what i saw of the hotel zone, i dont think you could go wrong with any of them. The Secrets resorts looked fab too. Better paying a few quid more for a top quality all-inclusive than going on price alone and eating/drinking elsewhere out of boredom/quality.

I was looking at the Sun Palace and the Moon palace - The Sun Palace looked abit more basic than the Moon - and smaller - Is it close to other stuff to do and what are the restaurants like etc? Thanks

I'll buck the trend here slightly, I was in Cancún (actually just south in Playa Del Carmen) and it was very nice. I have never been to Jamaica, but friends of mine were on holidays and loved it.

Both accommodations above were in resorts and very safe. Only gripe about that part of Mexico is that on the first day it reminded me of a very nice part of Spain and when people now ask me would I go back, I'd be saying "its a long way to go to feel like your in Spain".

    Flight to Mexico 9hrs+
    Flight to Spain 2.5-3.5hrs.
